Radio Galaxy Selected Clusters at High Redshift and Associated Ero Overdensities

چکیده
Galaxy clusters at high redshift present a superb opportunity to study galaxy evolution, with large galaxy samples at fixed distances. Several lines of evidence point towards large formation redshifts and passive evolution for cluster ellipticals. At redshifts larger than z ∼ 0.8, this picture rests on data from only a handful of rich clusters. We have observed four potential clusters to sample sparser environments in a critical redshift range, 0.8< z < 1.2. We compare the photometric evolution and radial density profiles in our clusters with more massive clusters studied in a similar manner. We also highlight the overdense ERO (I − K > 5) population, significantly redder than the old elliptical population at the cluster redshift. We discuss the implications of our clusters at high redshift, and possible differences in environment from richer clusters at similar redshifts selected through X-ray or optical techniques. OVERDENSITIES OF EXTREMELY RED OBJECTS IN THE FIELDS OF HIGH-REDSHIFT RADIO-LOUD QUASARS M.Wold and L. Armus
We have examined the occurrence of extremely red objects (EROs) in the fields of 13 luminous quasars (11 radio-loud and two radio-quiet) at 1.8 < z < 3.0. The average surface density of Ks 19 mag EROs is 2–3 times higher than in large, random-field surveys, and the excess is significant at the 3 level even after taking into account that the ERO distribution is highly inhomogeneous. This is the ...

متن کاملThe cluster environments of radio - loud quasars at 0 . 6 < z < 1 . 1
We have carried out multicolour imaging of a complete sample of radio-loud quasars at 0.6 < z < 1.1 and find groups or clusters of galaxies in the fields of at least 8 and possibly 13 of the 21 sources. There is no evidence for an evolution in the richness of the environments of radio-loud quasars from other low-redshift studies to z & 0.9. The quasars associated with groups and clusters in our...
متن کاملThe Phoenix Deep Survey: the Clustering and the Environment of Extremely Red Objects
In this paper we explore the clustering properties and the environment of the Extremely Red Objects (EROs; I −K > 4mag) detected in a ≈ 180 arcmin deep (Ks ≈ 20mag) Ks-band survey of a region within the Phoenix Deep Survey, an on-going multiwavelength program aiming to investigate the nature and the evolution of faint radio sources. Using our complete sample of 289 EROs brighter than Ks = 20mag...
متن کاملA search for clusters at high redshift III . Candidate H
In this paper we present deep VLT multi wavelength imaging observations of the field around the radio galaxy PKS 1138−262 aimed at detecting and studying a (potential) proto-cluster centered at this radio source. PKS 1138−262 is a massive galaxy at z = 2.16, located in a dense environment as indicated by optical, X-ray and radio observations. We had already found an over-density of Lyα emitting...
